Kate is a freelance copywriter based in Brisbane, Australia.
Her words have told the stories of creative people, sustainable design, travel destinations and thoughtfully designed homes.
She regularly writes copy for brands in the design, property, real estate and architecture fields.
A kid from the bush
She grew up in central Queensland, riding horses, climbing trees and wandering the bush for hours with a dog or two by her side, picking sprigs of wattle with all the whimsy of an Australian Anne of Green Gables.
Ten-year-old Kate loved being outside, playing with litters of puppies, putting on plays with her cousins and making up stories. Her early literary inspirations were Louisa May Alcott’s Little Women, Eleanor H. Porter’s Pollyanna and May Gibb’s Snugglepot and Cuddlepie.
The Euro era
After boarding school and a move to the city, Kate studied communication and a Master of Journalism before doing a stint in London to work in magazines and live in Shepherd’s Bush with other antipodeans.
A holiday with friends to Spain cemented the country as her spiritual home, and she returned to live in a tiny flat in Barcelona and revel in the beauty and life-affirming culture of Catalonia.
Working as a nanny and marketer, she immersed herself in Barcelona life of siestas, 10pm dinners, patatas bravas and vino in bars, walking the cobblestoned, graffitied streets and happily getting mistaken for a Spanish person. Spain left a strong impression and it remains her mecca.
A new life in the Territory
Back in Oz, Kate’s career centred around marketing, media and communications.
Her travels took her to Darwin to work with the ABC where she explored the Top End, Tiwi Islands, Kakadu and Alice Springs. The Territory wasn’t the only one she fell in love with – she also met her husband and had two little girls. She wrote for local magazines and national websites.
Returning to her hometown of Brisbane as a family of four, Kate worked in strategic communications roles while freelancing as a real estate copywriter.
Today she lives with her family and two rescue dogs in a suburb by the sea.
She visits Ubud, Bali regularly and draws inspiration from its people, culture and philosophies.
